The AL-EMS system consists of a water-cooled stirrer coil fed by a frequency converter. The stirrer coil is installed under the furnace bottom or at the sidewall. The stirrer operates with a low-frequency magnetic field, which allows for the field to penetrate through the furnace bottom. The steel plate facing the stirrer has to be made of austenitic stainless steel.
The stirrer coil has no contact with the furnace plate, which leaves the furnace structure intact. The design concept is extremely reliable and the need for maintenance is minimal. Stirrers are available in sizes suitable for furnaces with a holding capacity from 10 up to 170 tons. The final AL-EMS system design is usually adapted to each specific furnace geometry and size.
