ABB wins order for turnkey thermal power plant in Colombia

ABB's second private power project in Colombia within the last 12 months

Zurich, Switzerland, June 27, 1996 - ABB, the international electrical engineering company, has won an order for a turnkey 165-megawatt coal-fired power plant to be built near Bogota, Colombia. The order was placed by private power producer Electrificadora de Sochagota and has a total value of about US$ 145 million.

The plant, known as Termopaipa IV, will be located about 150 kilometers north of Colombia`s capital, Bogota. Construction at the site has already begun and is expected to be completed - including commissioning - within 32 months. ABB is responsible for overall project management and engineering, as well as for supplying the steam turbine, generator and condensers. Electricity from the plant will be sold to the local utility to supply the city of Bogota and the growing industrial region of Boyaca.

The order is the second private power project for ABB in Colombia in less than 12 months. Last October, ABB won an order to build a 750 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant at Barranquilla in northern Colombia.

ABB`s Power Generation segment employs more than 46,000 people worldwide with orders in 1995 of over US$ 10 billion. The ABB Group employs approximately 210,000 people with orders in 1995 of over US$ 36 billion.
